Descripción

The Contreras Viaduct is located on the Madrid-Levante high-speed rail line, on the Contreras Reservoir-Villargordo del Cabriel section. It is one of the most unique and technically difficult sections of the high-speed rail line, due to the complex orography and the natural and environmental conditions of the area in which it is located, almost all of which is the Contreras reservoir.

The viaduct over the Contreras reservoir, designed by engineer Javier Manterola, is 587 meters long, with a 261-meter arch span and 37 meters of deflection over the water, characteristics that make it the record holder in Spain and Europe for the longest arch in a railway bridge over a concrete structure.

It was constructed by means of successive cantilevers, which were supported by temporary bracing with ultra-high-strength concrete.
